Six Degrees of Separation:Together We Can Save Education!
Six degrees of separation refers to the idea that, if a person is one step away from each person they know and two steps away from each person who is known by one of the people they know, then everyone is no more than six "steps" away from each person on Earth.
I believe that we can take this idea and make it work for us. If we spread the word, educate our fellow Californians, and call our legislators, together WE CAN save education.
1. Read the plan of action below.
2. Begin contacting people you know and tell them what is going on. (The Governor is proposing to cut an additional $10.8 billion dollars from the education budget.)
• College friends
• Classmates from high school/middle school/grammar school
• Relatives
• Fellow parishioners
• Neighbors
• Colleagues
• Anyone you know who lives in Southern California
• Anyone you know who lives in the Central Valley
3. Ask the people in your network to contact their local assembly members and state senators.
4. Repeat until the cuts to education stop!
ACTION PLAN:
ACTION #1 -- PLEASE CALL YOUR LOCAL ASSEMBLY PERSON AND STATE SENATOR IMMEDIATELY. TELL THEM YOU ARE A VOTER & TEACHER (adjust as needed, e.g., "Parent", "businessperson", "firefighter"), AND DELIVER THIS MESSAGE (if you get a machine, be sure to leave the message)….
"The Governor's proposal to cut an additional $10.8 billion over the next 18 months is an irresponsible assault on California's students and schools. And adding further insult, the governor is redefining Proposition 98, the state's minimum school funding law, to take $7 billion from our schools that would never be repaid, in direct violation of the constitutional guarantee. Lawmakers need to raise revenues and solve California's budget problem without further detrimental cuts to an already underfunded public school system."
ACTION #2 -- IMMEDIATELY FORWARD THIS LINK TO AS MANY COLLEAGUES, PARENTS, AND FRIENDS AS POSSIBLE. ASK THEM TO TAKE ACTION.
